Preparation of poly(<scp>2‐hydroxyethyl</scp> methacrylate)‐grafted <scp>chitosan‐montmorillonite</scp> superabsorbent nanocomposite for adsorption of bovine serum albumin

Abstract In this paper, we examined adsorption process of bovine serum albumin (BSA) on [p(HEMA)‐g‐CTS]/MMT ([poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)‐graft‐chitosan]/montmorillonite) superabsorbent nanocomposite. nanocomposite was synthesized via free radical polymerization. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques, also swelling test have been utilized for the structural characterization The influence numerious parameters (initial BSA concentration, contact time, pH, sorbent amount, temperature, ionic strength) were evaluated. Adsorption results showed that had high affinity to BSA, maximum capacity is 75.8 mg/g. kinetics found be suitable pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model equilibrium data explicated according Freundlich isotherm model.
